The Waza Flo, now located in Flicnt Michigan at the Dort Federal Event Center, is pleased to announce the signing of Ivan Campos and Ricardo Di Maria Sobreira (Ricardinho) to the 2015/2016 Waza Flo roster. Both players were with Las Vegas Legends in the 2014/2015 season and Ricardinho was on the Brazil WMF World Cup team in 2015.
Owner, Diminic Scicluna, was able to witness firsthand the impact that both players made last year when Scicluna himself was traded to the Las Vegas Legends halfway through the season and then again when his Waza Flo team hosted the WMF World Cup games, including a semi-final game, with Brazil being one of those teams.
Vegas made the conference final four finals last year in which Ivan Campos led the way and Ricardinho scored with just 16 seconds left in the game to help the Legends move onto the conference championship game.
Brazil was the Group C winer in the WMF World Cup at Dort Federal Event Center (formerly known as Perani) outscoring opponents 26-12 in the first round three matches. The team was coached by the MISL soccer legend in the 1980s Tatu, who was a Brazilian who came here to play. Ricardinho will reunite also with their Brazilian WMF World Cup teammate Daniel Mattos who plays for Waza Flo.
Sobreira is a midfielder originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil who has been with the Las Vegas Legends since the 2012/2013 season. Ricardinho tallied 2 goals and 1 assist in the WMF World Cup for Brazil with one against the Czech Republic and the other assist against Canada.
“I am excited ti play for the Waza Flo team and when Dominic called me, I couldn’t say no”, stated Ricardinho at the first day of trainings this week with his new team.
Campos is a forward who is originally from Watsonville, California and before joining the Legends, he was the leading soccer for the Turlock Express in the 2012/2013 season. Ivan was also the third leading scorer in the former PASL league.
“I see a rebuilding of this Waza Flo team and it is exciting to be a part of it and see how we get with ewveryone from the beginning. I am anxious and have a good feeling that it’s all going to work out great”, stated Campos as he tried on his new jersey.
Co-Owner Dominic Scicluna is “excited to have here now, two guys that played a major part in Las Vegas’s successfull year last season and it is great that they will now play a part in this new season up in Flint. We are looking to bring a successful season to the community and the addition of Campos and Ricardinho just adds to the excitement and range of possibilities for this team.”
The season home opener for Waza Flo is on Friday, November 6th at 7:35pm at the Dort Federal Event Center against the Harrisburg Heat.
Both players will be helping at the Genesee Valley Mall water donation event today along with other Waza Flo staff including Director of Operations Kelly Haapala and Co-Owner Dominic Scicluna.
